Classic synthetic leather (with PVC synthetic leather as a typical representative) and semi-PU leather (a hybrid leather combining PU and base fabric) have distinct material structures, resulting in different daily maintenance and care requirements. However, their core principle remains "avoid damaging the surface coating and maintain material stability". The specific requirements are as follows:
1. Maintenance Requirements for Classic Synthetic Leather (Taking PVC Synthetic Leather as an Example)
Cleaning Methods
Daily stains (such as dust and light oil stains): Wipe gently with a soft damp cloth (or a sponge dipped in a small amount of clean water). Avoid using a hard brush or rough cloth to prevent scratching the surface coating.
Stubborn stains (such as sauces and paints): First, gently press the stained area with a cloth dipped in a neutral detergent (e.g., diluted baby shower gel). Then, wipe off any residual detergent with clean water and finally absorb the moisture with a dry cloth. It is forbidden to use organic solvents such as alcohol and gasoline, as they will dissolve the surface PVC coating, leading to discoloration or cracking.
Storage Conditions
Avoid long-term exposure to direct sunlight or high temperatures (e.g., near heaters or car dashboards). Otherwise, the material may age, harden, and crack (the PVC coating is temperature-sensitive and prone to brittleness when exposed to temperatures above 40℃ for an extended period).
Keep the item dry during storage to prevent mold growth in a humid environment. For items such as clothing and bags, lay them flat or hang them up (avoid folding and applying heavy pressure) to prevent the coating from sticking together or developing irreversible creases.
Special Protection
Avoid contact with sharp objects (e.g., keys, scissors). Although the PVC coating is wear-resistant, it has low tear resistance and is easily scratched.
If the product gets contaminated with oily substances (e.g., skincare products, cooking oil), clean it promptly. Long-term residue will cause the coating to swell and discolor.
2. Maintenance Requirements for Semi-PU Leather
Cleaning Methods
Daily cleaning: Wipe off dust with a dry soft cloth. For light stains, wipe with a slightly damp cloth and dry immediately (the base fabric of semi-PU leather has relatively strong water absorption, so long-term water penetration should be avoided).
Stain treatment: A special leather cleaner (with a neutral formula) can be used, but it is necessary to test it first on an inconspicuous part of the product (such as the inner side) and confirm no discoloration occurs before use. Do not soak it in water frequently, as the base fabric will absorb water and swell, causing the surface PU layer to wrinkle and peel off.
Storage Conditions
Avoid extremely humid environments: High humidity can easily cause the base fabric to mold. Dry conditions (such as direct exposure to air conditioning) can make the PU layer lose its toughness and crack. It is recommended that the humidity of the storage environment be maintained at 40%-60%.
For long-term storage, fill the interior of the product with soft paper (such as newspaper) to maintain its shape. Cover the outer layer with a breathable dust bag (avoid sealing it with a plastic bag to prevent mold growth due to poor air circulation).
Special Protection
Avoid contact with high temperatures (e.g., hot air from a hot pot, irons). The PU layer has poor high-temperature resistance and may soften and deform when exposed to temperatures exceeding 60℃.
It is not recommended to use care products such as shoe polish and leather brightener. The surface coating of semi-PU leather is thin, and the ingredients in care products may cause the coating to discolor or peel off.

3. Hazards of Improper Maintenance
If not cleaned for a long time, dust will penetrate the surface texture, wear down the coating, and affect the appearance. Using strongly corrosive detergents will directly damage the surface structure, resulting in discoloration and exposure of the underlying material.
If not handled promptly in a humid environment, classic synthetic leather may develop blisters on its coating, and semi-PU leather may produce odors and experience reduced strength due to mold growth on the base fabric.
Folding, heavy pressure, or direct sunlight will accelerate material aging and shorten the service life (such as cracking at the corners of bags and hardening and brittleness of shoe uppers).
